Now that you have watched the video, who does this remind you of? Ordinary people? Politicians? Business men? Well it reminds me of certain celebrities. Mainly the ones who wanted publicity of any kind, it didn’t matter if it was good or bad publicity.  Generally the most known ones that come to mind are Britney Spears, Nicole Richie, Lindsay Lohan, and etc.  Is there a pattern between them? Yes, why yes I think there is. The pattern is how they each wanted their own 15 minutes of fame, in which they did get, obviously. Those 15 minutes of fame are like an addiction, they just kept on coming back for more. Sure the media didn’t help but they were just SO addicted to it that they couldn’t help but embarrass themselves, even when they didn’t mean to.

In today’s society, celebrities rule the entertainment world and people mainly the paparazzi like exploiting their misfortunes for money. It’s a shame really. Britney Spears is a great example of this. There was once a time (about two years ago) where she went bald shortly after checking in a rehab facility and then checking out.  This may have seemed hilarious to most people but it was a cry for attention in which case, many people simply didn’t care about her; they just laughed and made fun of her for shaving her head bald. (Link 2) Nicole Richie is another good example of the paparazzi exploitation of her misfortune. She was arrested for driving under the influence of Vicodin and Marijuana. If she was an ordinary people, people wouldn’t have cared nor would have the paparazzi, but because she is a well known “celebrity” people became so interested in her business when they didn’t even need to go into her own business. Sure it may have been her fault for being idiotic but she didn’t need the presses to go crazy about what had happened to her. (Link 3) And Lindsay Lohan is another example of this. She too was driving under the influence, but she was on cocaine and she crashed. She too like Britney Spears and Nicole Richie was exploited on this also. The pattern that I mentioned up there throughout these three “celebrities” is that each occurred in a two to three month span. Nicole Richie’s incident occurred in December 2006, while Britney Spears incident occurred in February 2007 and Lindsay Lohan’s incident occurred on May 2007. (Link 3) So that is why I definitely think there’s a pattern between them.

Anyways as you saw in the video up there, the runner had great talent.  And he used his ability to its best extent, but he became arrogant and cocky as he kept on winning. Which lead to his downfall.  As soon as he lost, he messed up his own life not even thinking of anyone but himself. His wife and kids left him. The runner rose up to the top and then fell down to the ground. He didn’t learn from it nor he did he improve himself…he just drank alcohol and decided to rob a liquor store which lead to his ultimate demise.  The thing that made his lost worse was how the newspaper portrayed it as a huge problem because he was unstoppable. They exploited his lost which then made him feel extremely bad. And in the end he took his own life. This not only shows how powerful the media is but also how influential they are to ruin someone’s life in just a matter of days.
