Homemakers
Posted on March 27th, 2017 at 9:05 pm by brisaam and

According to a Gallup Poll, published on October 7, 2015, 56% of women in the U.S. with children under the age of 18, would prefer to stay at home instead of working. In addition, 36% of women without children under the age of 18 would also prefer to stay at home. When men had to leave the U.S. to go fight in World War 2, women had to take their places as industrial workers as well as the head of the household. They also took other jobs that were predominately done by males. When the war ended and men come back from war, they wanted to take back their previous positions and assume the title “head of the house”. They began working and sent women back as homemakers. Women then started to realize that they could do the same amount of work as men and some believed they can do these tasks better. About 80% of women wanted to keep working but their participation in the U.S. economy was still discouraged. Women were still expected to take care of their families and this encouraged the fight for equal rights, a continuation of the feminist movement. .However, the other 20% wanted to stay as homemakers. These women founded anti-feminist groups throughout the nation in order to preserve the traditional role of women.

Due to the fact that 56% of women have the desire to stay at home instead of working, how many of them actually stay at home? Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a solid evidence for the number of homemaker women in the U.S. but I did find out that a larger percentage of stay at home moms live in poverty today according to CBS DC. So, do women actually have a say regarding their preference to work or not? Are they able to make the decision for themselves or does the need for a job to sustain the family overthrow their desires? Yes, women can stop working if they want and take care of their families but what will this cost them? Affluent people do not have to worry about this but middle-class families might have to decrease their standard of living and survive on a tighter income.

Over the years, the goals of feminism are for women to have the same rights and freedoms as their male counterparts. This includes being able to pursue the same careers and carry on the same jobs. This has eventually caused the prices, in general, to go up and make the average cost of living to increase. Thus, making it harder for women who want to be homemakers actually be one. The responsibility of a homemaker or a stay at home mom is not as easy as many might say. Many Christian women desire to stay at home moms because they want to guide their children through life and teach them the word of Jesus while other women would like to spend more time with their families and forget about the stresses of the day. As a student, I often face stress and pressure which makes me feel frustrated sometimes and  I want to give up. Imagine women that have to work all they and take care of their families, it must be exhausting. Imagine having to wake up early in the morning to get your children ready for school in addition to making breakfast. Then imagine going to work and face challenges at the workplace. To top it all off, instead of going home and taking a long nap you have to make dinner for the family and help around the house in order to have a clean and decent environment all of which I am summarizing because it is not as easy as it sounds.

There are many reasons to why women have the desire to become independent and have the opportunity to work and experience the joys in life. I want to be one of those women who are independent and successful and are able to achieve greater things than men but, at some point in my life, I also want to be able to experience what it is like to serve and help my family. I want to experience that at some point but I also want to keep the way things are right now. I’m probably not going to be able to because of the demand of the two incomes at home. Women should be able to have all those careers and job opportunities with the option of staying at home and helping their families. The feminist movement focuses on the freedoms of women in and out of the workplace. As said by Karin Agness, ‘Rather than giving women a choice, feminists have made the choice for them.”, in her speech How Conservative Women Are Reclaiming College Campuses.  The decision that a woman has to make for her future should stem from her own beliefs, not by the expectations held by society.

Music
Posted on March 21st, 2017 at 7:16 pm by brisaam and

Music is the numerous ways of the arrangement of sound and silence which makes a coherent noise pleasant to the ear. Many people take music to be a form of universal language. A universal language due to the fact that rhythm, melodies, and harmonies are understood by almost anyone depends on all these types of sounds it can be deducted what the music might be about without having to lay out words. For some other people, music is a feeling due to the fact that music can make you feel almost anything. Music can make people feel joyful, melancholic, enraged, loving, frightened, and pretty much every other feeling there are. Most importantly music makes people travel through time. I say this because it has happened to me. When my grandfather died in 2009 a song name “Yo te extrañare” which in English means I will miss you was played. Every time I listen to that song now, I kind of relive my grandfather’s death and it makes me heartsick even if only the track is played. This can also happen vice versa, one can recall on happy moments when listening to music.

There are numerous types of music and every one of them has its own handful of different feelings. There are 23 actual music genres. Acoustic, contemporary, alternative, experimental, blues, rock, pop, etc. All of these types of music make people feel different and it is certainly different for each person. A person can be listening to pop music and feel joyful when another person can be listening to the same music and feel brokenhearted. It all depends on what past experiences you have had in your life where you can relate to that type of music and on what the music tells, basically what you understand from it. For someone, a type of music can mean love and for other, it can mean hatred. It can also depend on the author’s purpose to their music, they can have keywords that only some people might be able to understand or the music piece might be directly intended for a specific person.

According to Reference, people listen to music because “music provides pleasure to the listener and helps manage negative emotions such as stress and anxiety by providing an escape” among other things. As said before, music can make people feel many things. If someone listens to sad music then they are probably feeling melancholic. If you listen to happy music then you probably feel joyful and it is like that for every type there is. Music is also a way to escape the real world many people including me listen to music to avoid talking to other people and this can also serve as an advantage or disadvantage of the person’s feeling because it can change their mood. Music can also make impressions of what other cultures are like. Some cultures dance to music, other sleep to music, others don’t listen to music at all because it is not really utile to a person’s actual way of living which is wrong because in my opinion and in recent scientific studies it is said that music does have an impact on people’s lives.

Music does have an impact on people’s lives. Music can be a way of studying, audible learners use music as a way to study, it makes memorizing things easier and I’m saying this for personal experience. Music can be used to worship God which for me it is of great importance, worship music is different from regular music in a great degree, it is a really powerful tool to communicate with God and praise him. Music can also be used to save people’s lives by sharing the word of God with others as we can see daily. According to American Music Therapy Association, music can help people with a great variety of conditions, like it has been scientifically proven that music eases the pain.

Can people deduce someone’s personality by knowing the type of music they listen to? While scientists say that it’s the tones and melodies of the music what can lead to accurate personality predictions I say that it is the sentiment instead. The sentiment I say, because as stated before this is what demonstrate the true feeling. If someone listens to sad music it might be because they are sad on the inside but they seem happy when you are around them. Someone might seem shy and sad all the time but their music might inspire happiness and they might be happy inside and just don’t want to show it. Music is truly important is an individual’s life as seen from all the evidence given above.

Here is a link in which you can see what type of personality you have based on the type of music you like.

A Day Without an Immigrant
Posted on February 21st, 2017 at 10:37 pm by brisaam and

The idea of a day without an immigrant came from the movie A Day Without Mexicans. It was supposed to be another protest by immigrants to show our president how dependent the United States is of immigrants and mostly concerning our economy. This was against our president’s view of Mexican people being criminals. Also, his saying of immediately deporting 2 to 3 million immigrants. Every immigrant then seemed to take the claim our president made, too personal. We seemed to take it as such a big insult even though this was the craziest generalization, I think we all know that in general Hispanics are known for being hard working or at least that is my point of view.

This nation was founded by immigrants. The United States is known for its massive diversity and the massive number of immigrants that there are here. Some who come legally and some who don’t.  But still the majority of people come here to look for a better future, to work and to be able to have some money, which sometimes they send to their families in other countries. It’s true he wasn’t right when he said this but it is also true that there are some Mexican people who are criminals just like people from any other country not just Mexicans and not just immigrants but people from here too. The true people of the United States are Native Americans. People in the United States come from all over the world and even white people who think of themselves as full Americans for being born here come from families that are immigrants.

The purpose of this protest was to show President Trump that immigrants in the United States matter and they can have an impact towards the economy, a subject that seems to matter a lot to him. February 16th, 2017 the day of the protest “A Day Without an Immigrant” was supposed to be a day in which immigrants were not supposed to go to work. They were not supposed to go shopping or even shop online and most importantly not to buy gas. They weren’t supposed to send their children to school. If you were an immigrant you just had to not attend school. Basically, if you were an immigrant you were supposed to stay inside your house or either go to the place where the actual protests took place.

If you don’t go to work that means there is no people to do the work, which means the workplace will have to close at least for a day or find someone else to work extra hard because if there is no people to do the work, there are not going to be customers, if there are no customers, there is no money and if there is no money, there is no profit which means people will have less money to give to the government. If students don’t attend school, the school is not going to be receiving the money government gives them for the people that go to school, which means that the schools are not going to have the money they need which is going to affect their stability. And of course if you don’t go shopping the shop owners are going to lose a lot of money because nobody is buying their products which means that they are again not going to be giving that much money to the government.

Even though this seems to have no effect at all because it would only be one day, the point is to look at the effect in the long term. But even though the intent of this protest was a good one, it did not go that well for many people. There were some people that were fired after missing work the day of the protest. My question here really is, what are you gaining for not going to work or not going to school? You people are losing your money and the president doesn’t care because he definitely has enough money to survive.

Instead of doing this, you should be showing him that you are good people and that you do work and that we are not criminals. Instead of missing school, we should be getting an education so that we can become powerful people and essential people to this nation when we grow up. Instead of not buying from others, we should help them gain wealth by buying from them and they can in the future somehow help you. If you don’t like the president work hard to become the next president. If you would like to have more rights and more immigration reforms, fight for this but do it the right way. People shouldn’t expect to get what they want just by asking for it but by earning it. Just like in school, if you want a good grade you have to do all your work and that is how you succeed. Show President Trump that we Hispanics are hardworking people and that he was wrong when he said to Mexicans especially that they were criminals.

Storytelling
Posted on January 23rd, 2017 at 8:09 pm by brisaam and

Sisonke Msimang, an African-American writer, and activist, in her TED Talk , speaks about how storytelling is not as helpful as we think it is. We often see storytelling as entertaining and inspiring but that is all we see, we don’t seek for more. We read stories to have a pleasant time but we don’t wonder why the author of the story decided to write about it. Stories about love, stories about slavery, stories about the life of different people of different cultures, stories about bullying, etc. But we don’t actually see the purpose of the story. We don’t see that the story we are reading is happening in real life and it is happening everywhere and even though you felt something in your heart while reading it you decided to do nothing.

There are many stories that are written only so that the reader takes action like people who make documentaries, they have a purpose, they want to inform people of what is going on in the world but we only see a story. I once read a short story about a boy who was seeing out from a train’s window and he was describing everything that he saw to his dad. He pointed out the trees, the animals, the clouds etc. A teenager asked the dad why he wouldn’t take his child to a doctor and the father answered, I just did, my son was blind from birth and he just recovered his sight. This story might be heart touching for us but we don’t see that there are people out there who can’t see and we can help them. There are people out there that criticize everything we do wrong but that there also might be a reason why they do that and we could help but we don’t, we just decide to go on with our lives.

We tend to be so selfish that we don’t see anywhere else than in our own bubble. We tend to be so selfish that we only care about our own good. We go on with our lives without doing anything for anyone that needs our help. We don’t see the things that are happening around us and we don’t care until it is happening to us and because we didn’t do anything when it was happening to others nobody is going to help us when we need it. I often felt like storytellers had a lot of power because I thought they influenced the lives of others grandiosely but when I heard Sisonke Msimang saying that we don’t take the message of it I realized that she was right, that we actually don’t.

Sometimes you get so into the story you are reading that you have the feeling that you are in the story and that you did what they did but as Sisonke Msimang says we didn’t and it would be good if we did but we didn’t. There are people who love reading all types of stories and they read and they read but they don’t do anything in the real world. There is also sometimes of course that you want to do something about it and you can’t. Also, sometimes we only like to read stories or hear stories about good things, again to keep us in our own bubble to be in our comfort zone. We avoid the real things because we don’t want to be involved with it, we don’t want to feel the need to help or do something about it and it is not just one bad thing happening there are a million of bad things happening to people that don’t even deserve it.

Sisonke says, we applaud someone that talks about their feeling of shame but we don’t link that shame to the oppression happening in the world. We hear people every day saying they feel small but we don’t necessarily link that to discrimination. She says we don’t see the bigger picture and it is true we don’t. As I now look back at what I have read I realize that writers give us messages by every little detail that for some might be easy to get but others might struggle. Some might see things differently. Like in Psychology doctors show their patients images and some see people, some see animals, etc. Everyone wants to make the world a better place but we don’t even help in the little things like giving food or money to the homeless we see on the highway every day on our way to work or donating one dollar each day for a good cause . So, I agree with Sisonke, if a story moves you, act on it.

Education in the United States vs. in Latin America
Posted on October 24th, 2016 at 9:17 pm by brisaam and

Today, I want to talk about education in the United States vs. Latin America. I have found such an interest in this because I have experienced both. I studied in Nicaragua from preschool to 7th grade and here in the United States since half of the second semester of 8th grade to the present; 11th grade. It is true I studied in Nicaragua only, not in the rest of Latin America but I know that the conditions between these countries are similar. There are many differences in the education between both and what I am going to be focusing on is conditions, encouragement, and what are the differences between a kid that graduated from high school in the United States and Latin America. Latin America is claiming children will get a better education and certainly it has gone up but not comparatively with other countries. Here, I want to make more of an emphasis in the rural places of Latin American countries and in the United states middle class, generally speaking.

One of the main differences between the United States and Latin America is that here in the United States is illegal for children not to go to school or if unable to go to school they can have home schooling. In Latin America if a kid doesn’t want to go to school they just decide not to go. Sometimes the parents are the ones that don’t want their kids to go to school because they need help. Here, a person under 16 years can’t work even if they need the money. Children in Latin American countries can start working at any age. The worst thing is that sometimes it is even against their own will. Parents tend to force their children to drop out of school when they get to 6th grade so that they can help their families financially, children in those countries want to study and they can’t. Generally, kids here don’t even care if their grades are low, they don’t want to have an education because they do not know how life is out there in the real world.

Kids in the United States are being encouraged to do good in school. They have buses that can take them from house to the school and from the school to their houses. In Latin America kids often have to walk miles and miles to get to school because they have no schools nearby, sometimes it is just too far to go and they decide not to go to school and work. Those kids don’t have food they are not given free food they have to buy their food and take it to school from their houses. In the United States we are so blessed to have free food or at least cheap food at our schools and most important of all, healthy food. Kids here don’t recognize the great blessing it is to be born here or to come and live here because kids in other countries are not given anything.  Here if we do good in school we are going to be rewarded, in Latin America is not like that if you want to do good in school good, if you have bad grades good. Sometimes, I think teachers only care about their payment instead of caring in children’s education because kids are the future. Kids who are not able to go to school have the desire to do it because they want to be successful and have a better life but the ones who are given everything don’t appreciate what they have when they should.

After high school, students have many options here in the United States, they are given scholarships for everything, academic scholarships, acting scholarships, athletic scholarships, bible scholarships, dance scholarships, etc. I think there are scholarships for everything. Recently, a student from UCLA told me and a group of students that he got a scholarship for being 6 ft. tall. My point is that in Latin America there are nearly no scholarships, they are only scholarships for being an outstanding student and they don’t give many of these scholarships either. There are no athletic scholarships in Latin America, sports are thought of only being a hobby not a career. Children in the United States are more likely to get a good paying job than in Latin America. The lives of children here are easier than children in Latin America. Generally, children here don’t have to worry about anything else than their studies but children in Latin America have to worry about how they are going to feed their families, they have to worry about their part-time jobs, some even have to work a full-time job and go to school at night because they care about their education a lot.

In conclusion, children’s lives in the United States are better than the lives of children in Latin America regarding education. Children here in the United States need to learn how to appreciate what they have better because if they don’t they aren’t going to get anywhere. Children here need to start caring more about what is truly important not about what video games just came out or which brand of clothing is better than the other one, that doesn’t matter what matters is what they are going to be doing for a living when they grow up, how are they going to feed their families. Children in other countries have to take adult responsibilities when they are still kids and it is not supposed to be like that. Children that can’t get a good education desire that knowledge that we now think is never going to help us in anything. Let’s also have in mind there are countries in worse conditions than others. I am also aware that there is also poverty in this country but not as much as in Latin America and in other parts of the world too. The government tends to help schools in amazing ways here in the United States like giving textbooks, computers, tablets, etc. for a better way of learning. In Latin America the government is not as helpful in education as the government is here. Education is important everywhere you go.

Sexism in Society
Posted on October 12th, 2016 at 6:45 pm by brisaam and

Once again, I am going to be writing about one of our presidential candidates; Donald Trump. Trump is an American businessman, television producer, author, politician, and he became the Republican Party presidential nominee in 2016. Some people might say he is going to be a good president, but in my opinion the majority think otherwise, including me. Some reasons why Donald Trump is so popular are these: he has simple answers for everything, many people dislike immigrants, he says things people have been afraid to say, etc. But some reasons why some people are against him are these: he wants to build a great wall along the U.S. Southern border with Mexico, he is offensive, he says many dumb things and it is difficult to be entirely sure if he is joking or not, etc.

But, what I want to talk about is Donald Trump’s recently emerge of sexist tapes where he says inappropriate things about female models and his own family. People started criticizing him right away. I agree, not the way a president of any country should think and/or act. Also, he talking about his own daughter? In my opinion, awful. He said it was fine to call his daughter Ivanka a “voluptuous piece of a–“. I wonder how can someone talk like this about their own daughter?

When Donald Trump interrupted Hillary Clinton at the debate, many women were offended by his rude attitude towards a woman. But he also interrupted his male competitors during the primary debates. The point here is that people are hypocrites, people were scandalized by this when our whole society is built in sexism. Sexism is everywhere and  now it shouldn’t be an issue because this doesn’t matter to people anymore. I am not saying it is right. Celebrities are always being criticized for how they look and for some people this is normal. Women are advertising their bodies in billboards, magazines, internet, etc. but they sure know they are going to be criticized by more than one.

Female celebrities post nude pictures and apparently it is okay, everyone can see them but they don’t understand that by doing this they are encouraging sexism. Their excuse is saying it is the pride of being a woman. Men want to be prevailing over females since men were dominant in early years. Sexism should discontinue so that women and men can live a life without being rivals. Men and women should be treated equal, but even women contribute to sexism these days by wanting attention from men, when we don’t need it. But men also face sexism not only women. Many people want Hillary Clinton to be the next president of the United States just because she is a woman and they think it is time for a woman to be in power. They don’t care whether she is qualified for the position or not.

There’s still an incredible amount of stereotypes in our society that are applied to men and women, and they extend far past physical capability. Women are considered less effective leaders than men; people assume women don’t have the same personality traits that make man good chief executive officers, politicians or good in business. People shouldn’t be that surprised that one of our presidential nominee thinks like this because even the people that are criticizing him have done this. It doesn’t matter if you only thought about it because I consider that doing it still. Our society is built in sexism and unfortunately that is just the way it is.

Gun Violence Prevention
Posted on September 20th, 2016 at 6:53 pm by brisaam and

Gun Violence Prevention

One of our candidates for the presidency is Hillary Clinton. I definitely do not agree with her in many things but in this, I must: Gun violence prevention. Clinton is trying to control the epidemic of gun violence. She, as president, will expand background checks to more gun sales, focus on lobbying  to remove the industry’s sweeping legal protection for illegal and irresponsible actions and she will also keep guns out of hands of domestic abusers, other violent criminals and the severely mentally ill.

People don’t know the risks of what having a firearm could mean. There are just so many examples of gun violence in the world and I think this is the time to fix it. Others might think that having a firearm in their houses is for the protection of their families but they don’t know the risks there are in having a firearm in their houses such as kids getting their hands on them and an accident could occur. American children younger than 15 are nine times more likely to die by a gun accident than those in the rest of the developed world said Evan DeFilippis and Devin Hughes. These statistics indicate that parents’ who own weapons have made a significant risk not only to their own children but also to their children’s friends.

There have been many school shootings which in my opinion happened due to the easy access to this weapons or firearms. We know of many cases like the UCLA shooting  of June 1, 2016, when Student Mainak Sarkar shot dead a professor, William Klug, and then himself and just like this one I can mention many other examples and not just in education center, some of  these shootings are: Pennsylvania (Amish community shooting), Orlando shooting, Sandy Hook Elementary Shooting, San Bernardino shooting, Colorado movie theater shooting and Santa Barbara shooting between others.

Another of people’s excuses to have firearms is saying that they use them for hunting. I know that hunting is a sport but in my opinion, that doesn’t make it right. I don’t think we should kill animals either because why would you kill an animal just for fun or for pleasure? Some of you might be informed that many animal species no longer exist or are endangered due to irresponsible use of firearms and to the easy access to them.

It is a trend for celebrities to go hunting to other countries and they feel proud for doing it. The only thing they are actually doing is destroying our fauna as did Donald Trump Jr. who has a picture wearing a backward baseball cap and holding a rifle, sitting next to a dead buffalo.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and prevention, in the United States there were 73,505 nonfatal firearm injuries (23.23 per 100,000 U.S. citizens) in 2013; 11,208 homicides (3.5 per 100,000); 21,175 suicides; 505 deaths due to accidental/negligent discharge of a firearm; and 2,818 deaths due to firearms use with “undetermined intent” for a total of 33,636 deaths due to “Injury by firearms”, or 10.6 deaths per 100,000 people. This is why I think the ownership and control of guns should be a more debated issue in every country in the world not only in the United States. Approximately 1.4 million people have been killed using firearms in the U.S. between 1968 and 2011. It is my opinion  that with easy access to firearms there are always accidents as I said before and there need to be more regulations on who can buy firearms and who can’t.

A Biblical Point of View
Posted on September 11th, 2016 at 8:36 pm by brisaam and

A Biblical Point of View

I found an article in the internet called “Why Christians should embrace same-sex relationships.” and I did not agree with it. This article is basically claiming that the bible never says that same sex relationships are a sin, when the bible clearly says it many times. This article says that we “ Christians” use the same passages to condemn this type of relationships over and over. Christians are trying to be simple, trying not to be rude giving people the passages that go straight to the point but that at the same time are going to make people feel bad because we as Christians want everyone to know and to feel  the love that God can give us. If we start by saying this passages that are clearly not pleasant for them, they are not going to keep listening to us, they are going to avoid listening to the word of God and that is definitely not what we want.

Anthony Ashford the man that wrote that article says that in Genesis 19: 1-13 “Sodom and Gomorrah’s destruction” is one of the passages Christians use to discriminate homosexuals and he basically says that we interpret this passage wrong. He states that in this passage not all men in the city are necessarily gay and that is true but surely they were committing others sins because God wanted all people in the city that were good out of the cities just like he did with Lot and his family, so that he could destroy it. The men that went to Lot’s house, I think certainly were homosexuals because why else would they want to rape the two angels if they weren’t. I know it could be a form of brutal humiliation like Ashford says but why couldn’t they choose any other form of brutal humiliation?, because they were homosexuals.

Then, Ashford uses Leviticus 18:22 “Mosaic Law Prohibitions” and Leviticus 20:13 “ Mosaic Punishments for Violating Mosaic Law” to say that it is ridiculous when in Leviticus condemns so many thing including homosexuals. Some of this are; eating shrimp, eating rabbit and eating raw meat. The thing is that when Jesus came to the earth in Matthew 15:11 he says, “What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.” So, that explains why it is not a sin that we do it now, because Jesus already paid for our sins and we do not need to do sacrifices anymore. The thing here is that Jesus never said that homosexuality was allowed but he did speak about these foods.

What I want here is people to know that the Bible does say homosexuality is a sin as stated in the next passages. Leviticus 18:22 “’Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable.”, Leviticus 20:13 “If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.”, Romans 1: 26-27 “26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.”, and 1 Timothy 1:9-10 “9 We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, 10 for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine”. I hope that with this passages above, you understand that homosexuality is a sin for Christians.

If Christians emphasize this a lot is only because we don’t want everyone to be condemned and we know that if they keep going that way they are not going to end up in a good place. We as Christians want everybody to have salvation and to go to heaven with us because crealy that is the best place someone can be at, heaven is not even compared to earth. When people asked Jesus which was the greatest of the commandments, in Matthew 22:37 Jesus replied, “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ So, if we want the salvation for ourselves, we also want everyone to have the salvation and the love of our beautiful and fair God. Romans 5:8, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” God hates the sin but loves sinners and he has a plan of salvation for all of us through Jesus. John 3:16 Says: “for God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whoever believes in him will not perish but have everlasting life.

Nicaragua, the only place in the world where there are freshwater sharks. People think that this bull sharks came through the San Juan River and created a system of living in this freshwater overtime. Lake Nicaragua or as Nicaraguans call it Lake Cocibolca is the largest lake in Latin America. In the two first pictures on the gallery you can see the lake. This pictures express the beauty and culture of the city. I have been there many times and the city amazing. You get to see the lake from the city, people even have houses right next to the lake. Some people tend to call the lake Sweet Sea because it looks more like the sea than a lake.

The city is impressing. They have horse carriages, which you can ride on. The cathedral symbolizes the religion of the city, which is mostly Catholic. The houses have a colonial style, the streets with trees on the sides show the beauty of this magical city. My family says that before 1852, Granada was the capital of Nicaragua. At this point I have not actually found anything claiming that it is true, but it might have been. Nowadays, Managua is the capital of Nicaragua.

Ever since I was little I have always dreamed of living in a colonial kind of house and I think Granada would be a perfect place to make that dream come true. Picture number 2 and 3 show what a colonial house looks like. I wanted to talk about this specific city because I am very proud of the country where I was born, Nicaragua. I want everyone to see the beauty of this country, specially this amazing city called Granada, which is one of the oldest and most important cities in Nicaragua. Granada was founded in 1524 by a Spanish  conqueror named Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba. Francisco named the city Granada after his home in Spain.

I think we should be aware of the many beautiful places there are around us. While I was searching on what to write for my first blog post, I asked myself why not talk about my own country because of the many beautiful places there are, like; Leon, Ometepe Island, Lake Nicaragua and others. I started researching for the best places to go in Central America. The first five websites had Nicaragua at least once and others twice. While searching, this images caught my eye.

Picture number 1 shows the lake from above ground. You can see that it is true that the lake looks like the sea. The lake has 365 islets, some of them you can actually buy and others are just inhabited by animals. You can also see the city in this first picture. In the second picture, there is the lake again and at the back you can see the Mombacho Volcano. The Mombacho Volcano is the reason why there are so many islets. Mombacho Volcano erupted thousands of  years ago which caused the islets to emerge. You can go hiking and zip lining.

As I said before, Granada is not the only place you can visit in Nicaragua. There are other places like Leon. Leon is another colonial city just like Granada. Leon was also founded in 1524. Cerro Negro volcano is next to this city, too. It is one of the region’s most active volcanoes. You can actually go sandboarding there (I am looking forward to do it sometime in winter break!) or you can just choose to walk it in your way down. There is also a cathedral in Leon just like in Granada. Another good place to go is Ometepe. Ometepe is an island formed by two volcanoes rising from Lake Nicaragua. It has numerous natural reserves and forests that enjoy a high biodiversity. I have some pictures linked to every place if you want to see more.
