I have thought about the book. I think that is why I have such a distaste for it. I think there were definitely more dimensions of stupid, and Native Son covered them all. There was societal stupid(blacks stealing from other blacks in a society where they were already at an economical disadvantage), political stupid(Bigger mentioned how politicians can be bought), economical stupid($), cultural stupid (just the fact that whites were thought to be supreme compared to the inferior blacks), and logical stupid(which I think we all agree).
That is a lot of stupid to look past.

I am quite shocked to hear that neither of you enjoyed Native Son, which ironically happens to be my personal favorite. Perhaps it’s the fact that it’s an easy read that I enjoy, or perhaps it’s the fact that it is really just the reflection of our society.
I don’t know, something to think about, if you look past the ignorance and “one dimensional Stupid”.

Wow this sounds like an interesting read the beginning sounds really sad though and it must be a hard thing to try to overcome. Living a bad life like that is hard, people will always be cruel and insensitive to others because that is just human nature. We never learn even though we should. I think i will read this book some time and you did a great job in explaining it.

I agree with you on Native Son. All the characters were one dimensional Stupid.
I am glad that I am surrounded by smart people because I would explode at the ignorance.

THANK YOU CRYSTAL for writing such a fantastic critique! There are so many names for this generation or age group at the moment. “Generation Rude,” or how about “Generation Ungrateful.” This generation is more than computers and gadgets. This is a miniature society of lazy immature selfish little brats that only want to receive and never want to give. Friendship is so misconstrued now. It isn’t the friend that one likes to be around. It is the friend that gives you the most that becomes the ideal “BEST” friend.
I am glad that my friends are more considerate and realize the impoliteness and vulgarity in the language used by 10 year-olds.

Great Blog! But I disagree with Magaly. I think that if you would have elaborated, you might have exploded. It’s hard not to get angry when you are writing about an annoyance and your thoughts come out faster than your hands can type the words. But it does need to be said. And I know that you are not afraid to say it, and you do.
For that I thank you!!!!

As Crystal entered room 506 she discovered to her utter amazement that she was in Mr. Mukai’s room. Oh no! Wrong class, but I am sure that she managed to find her way back to room 503. Other than that little mix up, this post is amazing. Great Job! I too was not happy with the book Native Son. After The Great Gatsby, I thought that life could be better. Then I read the first page of Native Son. I was already disgusted by Bigger’s character in general. Well I will be giving my feedback later, then we can finish this conversation.
I love your description of yourself. =) oh thanks for teaching me how to make smiley faces. =)

I would like to read what you wrote. Where can I read it? I believe that the younger generation IS getting more rude and exposed to explicit material.

I know exactly what you mean! I wrote a journal similar to your not too long ago when I spent three hours at an elementary. However, mine was more focused on how people younger and younger are getting exposed to more adult material. (which in my journal, explained the reason to the impoliteness andthe horrible manners)

I really enjoyed reading your blog. Seriously. I think this would be really great if you tried to get it into the SOCES newspaper. It defninitely caught my attention. ( Maybe a stronger, ctachy title but that was made up for with your content.)

I woud love if you elaborated… and Oh my gooshness!! You should defintely make this an O.O. speech… the subject applies to everyone and it IS something you feel strongly about it.
