Savor the Moment??

OK. So, I don’t know about most of you, but I have this fascination with photography.

Photography, you are able to capture those rare moments in life, capture a glimpse of the present to save for the future.

It’s something about being able to conceive those raw instances of life, those unexpected shots of glory that’s tangible. Don’t get me wrong, I love having memories, but eventually those memories will fade out and become out-shined by brighter and recent memories. And eventually, you won’t even be able to trigger then back. They’ll become a glimpse of the past, only a reminiscence, a trip through memory lane. You know, when you look at a picture that YOU took from a moment in your life, if feels as if you were there all over again.

A few days back, I found a flash drive that I had lost the previous year, 2010. You know, after a year, you forget what you stored on to it. So, I automatically plugged into my laptop. As I was going through my files, I can across a folder that had no title on it. I open it and I found about 400 photos of my 2009 summer and fall. I had, up to that point, forgot everything about then. I started going through each photo and I played out each event in my mind. Looking at those photos made me remember what I had, essentially, forgotten and would have eternally lost if I had not found them. It made me remember my friends and those who I had lost contact with.

Photography is an art that anyone can be great at. It doesn’t have to be a breathtaking photo, it just has to have meaning. You take a picture of a tombstone because it’s sentimental and it is where someone who was close to you lays, not because it has an awesome background and the lighting is amazing.

Don’t get me wrong, some pictures come out really beautiful, but photos have to have a meaning behind it. If not, then what’s the reason to have that picture to begin with, if it means nothing more to you than a piece of gum.

Photography may mean different things for different people, but as for me, I have come to this conclusion.

  • Pictures will lead you to the past, but blindness will lead you to a surefire bliss. Picture the world without color and then can one appreciate the craft of the palette.

  • Excellent post(s) and nice job expanding beyond the assignment!
