What Is Poetry For?

This is a video I chose out of 3.  The other 2 were poems themselves.  Sence it was hard for me to make sense of them both, I decided to choose the video I could relate to.  I guess I could’ve called my self a bit of a poet when I was younger.  Some of the answers where just what I might’ve said too.  Sadly, some hidden talents you find are soon lost.  If only I had the time to write it on paper I might still be doing it now.  Better yet if I found the answer to that question back then, I’d find enjoyment in writing it to begin with.

“What is poetry for?”  This is a question few students would ask in school as well as few teachers would know the answer to.  Some might say it was what we call cool nowadays.  Simple done with no questions asked.  Do we take the time to look up the word cool…rarely, I might say considering I just did now.  Same goes for Poetry.  A simple definition can’t help answer this question, so I’ll go through each person’s answer(s) one by one: (how convenient, it’s a total of 10)

1. “Trespassing and feeling at home at the same time”  In other words, 2 things in one.  When our class did the/a metaphor assignment, my metaphors were similar to this one.  One thing yet another.

2. “Change, weekness, and celebration”  I thing this refers to the what a poetry is about.  Noticing something in the day that’s different than others, good or bad.

3. “Experiencing the full range of human emotions”  Sharing the feelings you or another person might have been having one day at that very moment.   Better than answering a “How are you?” with just a “good” or “horrible”.

4. “It is for itself, it is to be”  It may as well be in its own league all together.

5. “To ask questions and to think about what their answers might be”  Taking the time out of your day to just let your brain wonder.  Something I use to do but do less often considering school.  It’s alright to get distracted every once in a while.  It may be the only thing that’ll safeguard ones creativity.

6. “To track and mark the hidden speech,  …life, …dream”  As I said earlier, some hidden talents you find are soon lost.  If something isn’t writen in stone, it’ll be forgotten.

7. “For everyone to recognize how many layers they’re made of and how much depth they have”  It doesn’t just stop at your feelings, it’s how you put them into words.

8. “To divine the human enterprise”  Have a positive effect on others rather than a negative one such as an argument would.

9. ”For helping you live life, to find out what other people are thinking about what it means to be alive”  More reason to keep on living than what we already know.

10. “Makes you dive down and realize how many fathoms you have inside”  Getting to now yourself better.  You won’t find out much if your to busy to make some time for yourself.

Now that I’ve looked at what I wrote about their answer, I could safely say I’ve found that answer a long time ago.  Here’s my attempt to make a poem(I use to see people I know do all the time):

Looking at nature was just the beginning for me

I moved on to space

But the earth pulled me back in

Never to see that same star again

But there’s hope

That I’ll reach an even brigher star

One that I’ll keep with me to the end

…That was fun, I actually enjoyed typing this post.  I don’t even know if I enjoyed the others, but for now on I’ll type that I enjoyed typying a post when I do.  I’d like to think of this post, not only as an answer to this question, but to inform those who read it…not that I get any readers.  Have a nice life!
