Alizen, Thank you for commenting on my blog! If a person really commits themselves to changing than they are more likely to be able to change. Some smokers can quit smoking, and others refuse to believe in their ability to change. I thought that Drew’s life was truly remarkable and worth telling. I am glad that her story opened your mind.

Wow, I never knew Drew’s life was that bad. I once believed that addicts had no real aspirations in life, but reading this made me realize how horribly close-minded I was towards them.

Hey Lyssette! Hey Sima! Thank you both so much for commenting on my blog! I agree I think that Drew Barrymore is a great actress and I too love Charlies Angels. To Sima, no I do not think that Drew Barrymore’s being in the lime light can be attributed to her behavior as an adolescent. I think that she really did not have good parenting and that she was given things that she never should have been given and not given what was necessary. I think her childhood was screwed up by her parents’ parental neglect. There have been other young actresses and actors, most did not have problems until later in life. For example, the Olsen Twins, Mary-Kate was 18 when she became anorexic. Lindsey Lohan did not have any severe problems until she was about 21. Drew Barrymore was 9 when her problems began. Even if Dakota Fanning suddenly turned to drugs and alcohol she would be 6 years older than Drew Barrymore when she had her drug problems. In fact Dakota Fanning is 15 now, the age that Drew turned her life around.
Child stars are known to have downfalls, but they are known to have them when they become adults, not when they are still children.

WOW that one interesting life, I agree that there are many people out there that can learn from her. Charlie’s Angels is one of my favorite movies, and she is an amazing actress. Do you think that the lime light had some effect on her early adolescent behavior?

Wow Kay, I am such a Drew fan, and I didn’t even know half of the stuff on your blog! Well, I totally love that chick, and only now do I realize the irony from Charlie’s Angel’s, when she played a character that was a “bad egg” before she met Charlie……………Anyways, loved the details and everything, and love the pretty pictures. I think that her story is very important and very moving. I think that it is incredible how she was able to change her life so young. She is only 34 years old now. That is pretty young to have led two completely different lives. I think that she is an inspiration as well.

Wow, yea, I agree that parents should take responsibility for their child and guide them on the right road, but Drew’s parents just used her and abandoned her. I am proud that Drew had the strength to carry on and beat the odds despite her family upbringings. There are many people who have had similar family upbringings and they turned into messed up adults who never get out of the rut of blaming their parents for all of their problems. That is not the way to go. Yes, parents are responsible for you, but after a while, you just have to stop feeling sorry for yourself and turn your own life around. And that is exactly what Drew Barrymore did and I think everyone should learn from her.

I agree that her story is very tragic. It is horrifying to know that if she had better guidance she would not have gotten into drugs. I believe that it was completely her parents fault. She was neglected. Her father did not even live with her and her mother for a while. Her mother was in the picture and didn’t stop her 9 year old daughter from smoking. Her mother was irresponsible and unfit. I saw Drew Barrymore on the Jay Leno Show and she even said that her mother would actually told Drew to get her into clubs.
Ildikó Jaid Barrymore was using her daughter for selfish purposes. Ildikó Jaid Barrymore is lucky that her daughter was strong enough to leave her and strive on her own. Drew Barrymore could have died if she had not left the parental neglect of her mother. Drew Barrymore changed her life and has become a success story.
I feel that that is why she is still, currently on non-speaking terms with her mother.
People might argue that her parents are not responsible for Drew Barrymore’s drug abuse ans suicide attempt, but a parent is responsible for a nine year old girl. At nine years old she might have been in only 3rd or 4th grade considering she was born in late February. Her mother put her in too many troubling situations when Drew was only a child; she could still count her age on her fingers.
