As I looked up USB on Google images I came across an interesting discovery and was introduced to the new world of USB.  Apparently the food world of USB is pretty big. USB is short for Universal Serial Bus and is also known as a flash drive or jump drive.  USB’s have become very popular in every day use, whether it is used for transporting work files or personal files.  Some USBs are simply used as software backups.  However, not only memory space can be varied. Throughout the last several years the world of flash drive has gotten extremely creative.

While I laughed and scrolled down, I could not help thinking why someone would have so many USBs if they were not simply collecting them.  The cheapest USBs sell for around five dollars and the price goes up based on storage space.  The creative 2GB post-it USB costs a total of $49.99, while an ordinary 2GB USB costs about $15.00.  There is of course a price for creativity, but that is over a 300% price difference. For the price of creativity a person could get three USBs and still have some cash left over.  Overall, it sounds too pricey to be a collection item.  I know that if I had one of these crazy USBs I would use it, rather than display it as decoration.

Some of the USB drives seemed a bit unpractical, like the over sized bagel. However, others were hysterical.  It is amazing how many different USBs there are.  There was a collection of diamond jewelry USBs, toy USBs, and an endless collection of foodstuff USBs.  The increasing number of food revolved USBs reminded me of America and China’s increasing obesity problems.  Is food in reality an obsession?  Is it a hobby?  Could and obsession for food ever be as great as an obsession with a TV show? The other USBs reflected an aspect of a persons life and what they like.  For example, the Lego piece USB might belong to someone who likes Legos. The grenade/army USB might belong to a soldier or someone very found of action war movies and guns.  I personally hope that food is not a hobby, but let me know how you feel on the issue.

Here are some further examples of what I found:

Thank you so much Roberto for commenting! I don’t know that awkward is an appropriate definition of the finger USB. Could you explain the word awkward, or did you just mean weird/odd?
I did see the cross one. There were many more, but I did not want to fill up the memory or have too many pictures. There was also a really cool skull necklace USB. I tried to put a picture of every USB I talked about.
    Thank you for reading!!!

Crazy! I never thought people would go to these extremes, but hey they are something new. The finger one was akward. You probably have seen the cross one; that’s my favorite. Great job, as usual, Kay!

Thank you so much Alizen and Sima your wonderful comments!
To Alizen: The only problem with an eraser USB is that if it fell on the ground a person would take it without remorse. In there mind it is only an eraser. people lose erasers all of the time. But I do like the camouflage idea. =)

That is soooooooooooooo cool! The cracker and the fortune cookie are my favorite, (both of them seriously look edible) This was one of the most random topics I have ever read a post on, however it was very entertaining and interesting =) The pictures speak for themselves, this world is one creative place!
    Fantastic Job Kay

They actually have a HUUUUGE variety of USBs in the Philippines, come to think of it. I love the creativity in some of the styles, such as the smiling ipod. :)
Although I think there are some benefits to having some of these styles. For instance, the one disguised as an eraser may actually keep you from having it stolen. I know it sounds stupid, but I’ve had some pretty ridiculous things taken from me, even though I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t serve the thief a specific purpose.
OF COURSE Crystal would say food is a hobby. >:P

oh wow, that is interesting, hahaha. If I got this in an email, I would have smiled and laughed, like what I do at all your emails you send me.
And no prob, your blogs are really interesting :) and I have to comment to put in my two cents.
    KEEP ENTERTAINING ME KAY! =D

Thank you for commenting Crystal! I really appreciate you being an active member on my blog.
How did I think to write about this?
Well this is the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I was doing an art project where we have to make something levitating in empty space. The effect reminded me of things that a person loses. So I started thinking what can a person lose. I thought of a USB and when I typed in USB, some creative USBs popped up. I was making a creative email when I realized that I had to make a blog soon. I thought that the topic was interesting enough and it was either email it or display it. If I emailed it then I would have to come up with a different topic, and at the time I was fresh out of ideas. And that is how I came to write this post. =)

I like how you related USB and obesity together. I never knew there were so many varieties of USB drives. The food ones seems delicious. I would probably want the fortune cookie ones, but I am more practical, plus, I don’t like to pay more for things that don’t require it. The finger USB one just creepy, and the eraser one looks cool. I would prob mistake it for the real thing and use it though… I like the one that looks like an ipod and a crystal heart! :D

I think food can be considered a hobby… however weird as that seems. There are many different hobbies, some can be extremely weird…. so if people like to eat, then yea! it’s a hobby. Whether it is healthy or not is a different story. This was interesting to read. I have one question: How did you think to write about this? xD

Thank you Valerie and Sonal for commenting. I agree with you both!
It is sad that food has become a hobby, but it is true.
And yes the finger may be very creepy to carry around in your backpack. People who like horror films and blood would probably be very interested in owning a finger USB. People like to be unique, but multiple of these unique USBs exist and is it really original if you are buying it. True originality comes from within ourselves. But I would rather buy a cool USB than make one.
I know that it is really different from what I have done so far.

Wow, this is so cool! I love your pictures! I never knew there were such a huge variety of USBs before. The most creepy picture for me was the finger one, thats pretty disgusting. And imagine carrying that around in your backpack, purse, or pockets and then just pulling it out to put it in the computer. That would be so weird. Even though, these are some really cool types of USBs, I don’t understand why people would them though. And let’s people would actually buy them, honestly, I would never want to use! Anyways, great blog, it’s definitely really unique and different from other blog posts I/ve seen =]]

That was very entertaining! And I never even imagined how many different types of USB’s there are. It looks like it could be a great collectors item. Yes, as of recent times, I look at America and see that food has definitely become a hobby. Almost everything that we live around, involves food in some way. It almost makes me laugh to see a USB in a shape of a bagel. This was definitely interesting to read. Great job on such a unique topic!>_<
