In this article that Lana Winter Hebert wrote she explains why it is important to read everyday. There are tons of books you can read from and a lot of them are interesting. Most people will find reading pretty boring but once you get attached to reading you will like it more and more ! Plus it is very important and a lot of things help out your brain just by reading !

To begin , she says it helps mental stimulation which is a learning system . For example she says , “ The brain is like a muscle that needs to be exercised in order to maintain healthy and strong .” Meaning that in order to keep your brain strong you must exercise it by doing small things like reading everyday for atleast 15 to 30 minutes.

Then it also helps with stress reduction, When you are stressed you can read a well written novel and it will distract you from any negative thoughts since your full attention is on the story.

Reading can also help with knowledge because when you read you can always learn new information and words. Like Lana said , “ The more knowledge you have, the better – equipped you are to tackle any challenges you’ll ever face.” Knowledge is very important because it can’t be taken away from you like your job and money can .

Next reading helps with your Vocabulary Expansion, which will help you speak better and more professionally . Doing this will help you feel more confident when speaking and also help your self esteem . When reading you can also learn new languages which can help you a lot when finding a job.

The 5th thing reading helps you with us Memory Improvement. When you read a book you memorize the story’s characters and plot . According to Lina’s article she says , “ Every new memory you create forges new synapses and strengthens existing ones .” Memory is something very important and just by reading you can get better memory .

Then reading also helps with Stronger Analytical thinking skills. Meaning you can state opinions more clearly and think more . Thinking skills are very important they will help you a lot especially in school when haven’t a class discussion

The 7th thing that reading helps is it improves focus and concentration . Meaning all your attention is focused on the story when reading a book . Then later on it can help you stay focused on other things like school or work.

So remember there are a lot of important reasons to read ! I know it may seem boring and all but once you get used to it you will start to like reading more and more so start today and pick up a book !

Building Self Confidence

Have you ever been laying down in your bed or sitting down anywhere doing nothing? Have you ever thought to yourself, my life is so boring I literally do nothing and I feel like I’m just wasting time? I’m sure many of us have thought like this including myself. Instead of sitting down and being on social media all day watching other people’s stories and seeing how much fun they are having you can start getting up and actually doing something fun or working on yourself

In order to build confidence, you must

  • create plans
  • set goals and reach them !!!

You can even start off with a really small goal, for example your goal can be simply getting out of bed early and eating a healthy breakfast and going for a run. Then you want to create a plan maybe asking questions like, what time will I get up? What fruits will I need to eat? Where will I run? How daily will I need to do this? Once you are done planning and getting everything together you must do it, now you need to push yourself to do it. Don’t let negative thoughts get in the way like, I’m too tired, I can’t do this, I rather sleep in and do nothing. You need to change your mind to being more positive instead saying things like, I can do this, this will help me be healthier, and running will help improve my mood, hearing, heart rate, etc. Also, surround yourself with positive people that will help you, people who tell you, you can do it! I believe in you! Not people who will bring you down and say things like, why be doing that when you can just lay down? Or saying, wow being healthy isn’t living life, why eat fruits when there’s hamburgers and fries.
In order to build self-confidence, you need to be wrong and be okay with it. According to Mac Chernoff, “To build true confidence, you have to not mind being wrong. You have to take a stand, and then admit it if and when you realize your standing point is wrong.” Sometime we forget we are NOT perfect, we all make mistakes! Yes, everyone including celebrities and even Presidents! The best we can do is simply admit our mistake but we must learn from them and try not to do the same mistake again. For example, if you take a Math test and fail, don’t start telling yourself, I’m so dumb, I can’t do this, I’m going to fail everything. Instead you can look at what you did wrong, get help from a teacher or student, fix your mistakes you did on the test and learn from it. It’s also okay to get help when you need it getting tutoring doesn’t mean you are behind and dumb it means you are improving yourself and not giving up which makes you are amazing person!
So, start now and start doing something that will help you out in the future. Stop caring about people’s negative opinions, you know you are worth and strong and that’s a fact. At the end of the day everyone is worried about themselves so stop worrying too much about what people think of you, you do you and focus on yourself. Be that person who doesn’t give up, you can do it! Start today and do not give up. Finally, how much effort you put in something is how much success you will take out so give it your all even when it gets tough at the end it will be worth it.
